Recruitment Information!

Many of our favorite memories revolve around "rush..."  skits, parties, late nights with our sisters, and, best of all, a brand new pledge class of Phi's!

This is your portal for information regarding formal recruitment with the Kappa Alpha chapter!

2011 Recruitment Update

The chapter had an outstanding Recruitment last fall, welcoming 85 new members to an already amazing group of women.  Now it's time to get ready for Recruitment 2012!

2012 Recruitment week is scheduled for August 13th-18th.  The chapter will meet to begin preparations in early August.  We look forward to sharing their news and giving you opportunities to get involved with Recruitment!  Check back here and on Facebook often to get the news!

Recommendation Forms and Information

The official form that it to be used to provide a recommendation for a potential new member is available on the secure, Members-Only "My Phi Mu" site.  If you don't know your log-in, you can request it from National Headquarters.  Please attach a picture and transcript when submitting the recommendation.  Recommendation forms are also available on the chapter's website, under the recruitment page.

Recommendations should be sent to:

Phi Mu

Attn:  Elena Marchak

PO Drawer PH

MSU, MS  39762

Legacy Information

If you have a legacy that will be participating in formal recruitment, there is special information that you should be aware of.

A legacy is defined as a sister, half-sister, step-sister, daughter, step-daughter, granddaughter, or great-granddaughter of a Phi Mu alumna.  A legacy receives special consideration during recruitment, so it is important that the chapter is aware of your legacy in advance of recruitment week.  Fill out a Legacy Introduction Form, which is available on Phi Mu's secure "My Phi Mu" site, and mail it to the Recommendations Chairperson.  It is important to note that your legacy will still need a recommendation submitted as well, so get your alumnae friends involved!

Recruitment Do's and Don'ts

Alumnae play an important role in the recruitment process, even if we are no longer staying up all night in the chapter room rehearsing skits!  Here is a list of things to remember about Recruitment!

Remember:

  1. Know your vocabulary!  "Potential new members" are going through "recruitment" and we hope that they become "Phi's" or "new members."
  2. City-wide Panhellenic alumnae associations may host functions for generalized recruitment, but individual alumae or groups of alumnae may not.
  3. Do remember that the "no contact" period begins at MSU spring graduation and continues through Bid Day in the fall!  It's a long time!  You can't show any PNM's special treatment.
  4. You can maintain "normal contact" with potential new members in your area...it's "okay" to greet in passing!  (And you certainly don't have to stop speaking to your daughter!)
  5. Alumnae may assist during recruitment week in the sorority house, but not if your own daughter is going through.
  6. Send in any recommendation forms early in the summer, at least several weeks in advance of Recruitment week.
  7. Be on the lookout for great upperclassmen that may be transferring from junior colleges or simply didn't go through rush!  There is actually a separate quota now for upperclass women, so Get those Girls!
  8. Be aware that out-of-state enrollment is increasing at MSU, and more of these women are going Greek!  Alumnae, especially out-of-staters, can help by keeping an eye out for women going through recruitment at MSU!  Sometimes it can be hard to find recommendations for these outstanding women simply due to geography!

How can You help with Recruitment?

Any of the alumnae that are interested in helping out with recruitment are more than welcome!  More information will be available in the spring to get you connected.

The best way to help, however, is to proudly represent our organization!  Speak up about how much you love Phi Mu, what it meant to you in college and what it means to you today!  Get involved in your local alumnae organization  and chapter association and let other alumnae know that alumnae membership is a special part of the Phi Mu experience!
